Yacht charter in Opatija · Arkos — Arkos 517 Open (2009)

Reservation, arrangement and pick-up are simple.. We were greeted with a welcome drink and everything started great.. BUT.. When asked clearly before departure how many liters of fuel the ship consumes per hour, we get the answer 15-16l. We planned and completed a route of 49 nm (a little less than 3 hours of driving at an average speed of 18 nm/h, followed by a nautical app) and ran out of fuel on the way back 4 km from Opatija (and the fuel tank has 90 l and was supposedly full). When we noticed that the needle was showing an illogically low fuel level, we contacted the owner and then we were told that maybe the fuel gauge was not working well, so we no longer knew whether there was fuel or not. There was 1 liter of fuel in the 10 liter reserve tank. Even after filling in the fuel, the engine does not start because the fuel pump is allegedly not working (statement of the mechanic who was brought on board). Logic and mathematics find that either the engine consumes almost twice as much as stated, or something is wrong with the engine or the tank was not full. There is no gas station anywhere between the town of Cres and Opatija, so information about approximate consumption was important to us, and we were guided by that. When we called for help, they came quickly, but without fuel or knowledge of how to anchor the boat, so we floated for over 1 hour while they figured out how to solve the problem (luckily there was no strong wind or big waves). In the end, we paid the full amount of fuel, although according to their information, the boat should have consumed a maximum of 50l (16lx3h=48l) for that route. Even when all variables are taken into account, such as the way of driving and the state of the sea (minimum waves), the number of people on board (there were 4 of us, and it is registered at 6) should not be more than 90l in total. Count on a consumption of 25-30 l/h if you rent this boat so that the same situation does not happen to you. In addition, the anchor on the boat is too light and without a chain (a 5 kg cat that should not be used as the main anchor for anything but a smaller dinghy), and is therefore unreliable for such a heavy boat. It says there is a refrigerator, but it wasn't there. We are not inexperienced on a boat and we own a very similar speedboat in another location, so that's why all of this was illogical and bothered us. The guys tried to appear correct, but I can't say that that's the impression about everything at the end..
