Known for its long golden beaches, Lloret de Mar is a seaside municipality on the northeast coast of Spain. First inhabited by Iberian tribes, the city is now a popular resort full of interesting landmarks attesting to its long and rich history. You can visit the Church of Sant Roma, or walk up to the Castle of Sant Joan and its 11th Century tower for panoramic views of the sea. A section of the GR92 Mediterranean trail also runs along the coast past Lloret de Mar. But the best way to discover this city, Costa Brava, and further, is by boat.
Several factors have an impact on the pricing of a boat rental: the location, the type of boat, its size, the duration of the charter, and the port or marina you’re renting it from. The season also has a big impact. Summer is usually the high season, when the higher demand causes the prices to rise. Finally, the extras that you have the option of adding to your rental also influence the price of the charter. Extras can include watersports equipment, surf boards, SUPs, snorkeling equipment…
On average, a boat rental in Lloret de Mar costs €380/day.
It’s up to you whether you’d like to have a skipper with you on board. Most boats available have the option. In Lloret de Mar, the cost of a skipper for a day is €130/ day.
In the Girona area, Costa Brava extends from Blanes to the French border. The region, which spans 214km of rocky and rugged coastline, used to be a collection of small, whitewashed fishing villages. Sail down towards Tossa de Mar to see the impressive Mont Guardi. Continue on to Begur to visit its medieval castle and numerous colonial houses. You’ll find some of the best beaches of Costa Brava around Begur, such as Sa Tuna and Aiguablava.
Cadaqués, a small fishing village close to the French border, has retained its character and atmosphere. Stroll around the town’s labyrinthine streets to explore Santa Maria church, and see the charming Casa Blaua. A number of artists, and in particular Salvador Dalí, who had a house there, spent time in Cadaqués. The village today is still quiet, and not too touristy. The Cap de Creus Natural Park, a protected natural area since 1984, is close by. It was the first maritime-terrestrial natural park in Catalonia. It’s particular morphology, formed by the northern Tramuntana wind, is what inspired so many artists.
If you continue sailing up north, past Cadaqués, you’ll soon cross into France. Sail along the southern coast of France to reach the charming medieval town of Collioure, the cities of Perpignan, or Montpellier, and the beautiful Camargue region further up.
36 nautical miles to the south of Lloret de Mar is the capital of Catalonia, Barcelona. The city is known for its beautiful architecture, distinctive energy and constant activity.
