When you hear the word “Greece”, you probably think of islands like Santorini or Mykonos, but the island of Lefkada or Lefkas is a fabulous destination to set sail. Lefkada is a jewel on the Ionian Sea, and one of the seven main islands in the Ionian archipelago. It is actually the closest of the Ionian islands to mainland Greece, with a road that connects it to the rest of the country making it easily accessible. When you visit Lefkadas you’ll be greeted by rugged topography like high mountains and crescent-shaped cliffs decorated in lush greenery. If you’ve ever seen photos of Greek beaches, chances are these photos were taken in Lefkadas. The island is full of world-famous beaches which are so immaculate it’s hard to believe that they’re real. After swimming in the glittering turquoise water you’ll understand why Lefkadas is often referred to as the “Caribbean of Greece”. Whether you want to stroll through quaint villages, sunbathe on pebble sands, hike hilly terrain, or simply swim in the sparkling sea, a catamaran hire in Lefkada makes for the perfect holiday on the water.
If you’re looking to charter a catamaran in Lefkada, the cost will be affected by a number of things such as how many people are on board, the duration of your hire, and the size and length of the catamaran you choose. At Scansail we also have the option of a hire with or without a skipper which also affects the price.
Generally speaking, a catamaran hire in Lefkada for 10 people costs about £6,540/week in high season and £3,624/week in low season.
Although Lefkada is a beautiful destination any time of year, there are some things to take into account for a sailing trip. For the highest temperatures and the least amount of precipitation, visit Lefkada between April and October.

Like many other islands in Greece, Lefkada is beautiful and full of plenty to see and do. Of course, the main attraction in Lefkada is its pristine beaches, making it a haven for water sports and activities based on the water. Because of its exotic natural landscape, it is also an ideal destination for nature lovers who long to become one with nature. City dwellers can also find a host of quaint villages to explore. Whatever it is you’re looking for, you’re sure to find it in Lefkada. Here are some of our favourite things to see and do on the island!
At Scansail you have the option to hire a catamaran in Lefkada with or without a skipper on board. Although catamarans are generally stable and easy to sail, we always recommend having a skipper on board your vessel for the smoothest, worry-free sailing. Skippers handle all of the logistics such as docking and anchoring the vessel, as well as navigating it in good weather and bad. For a more luxurious experience during your catamaran hire, choose a skippered vessel. Skippers are also usually locals of Lefkada or surrounding areas and can show you hidden gems that you won’t find on travel websites.
If you have more time on your hands, consider a longer charter and sail your catamaran along the Ionian coast to the east and explore the small archipelago of islands like Meganisi sprinkled with dozens of coves and sea caves to explore. You can also visit Skorpios, a private island where shipping tycoon Aristotle Onassis married Jacqueline Kennedy, the former first lady of the United States. You can also visit some of the other Ionian Islands such as the largest island Kefalonia, which got its claim to fame on the big screen in Captain Corelli’s Mandolin.
While on a catamaran hire in Lefkada you can also sail around some areas of the island which are only accessible by boat due to the wreckage of a 2015 earthquake.
You can find plenty of privately owned yachts to hire in Lefkada. View other possible yachts in the region.
