Palma de Mallorca
Part of Spain’s Balearic Island Archipelago, Mallorca is an island with turquoise water, lush greenery, rocky mountains, and quaint villages in addition to a buzzing capital city known as Palma. With all of these things to love, it should come as no surprise that Mallorca is one of the most sought-after summer destinations and a great starting point for a tour of the Balearics. The island of Mallorca is rich in history and culture and is home to some of the most famous beaches in the world, making it a sailing hotspot. There is something for everyone on the island: world-class cuisine, family-friendly waterparks, hiking trails, and water sports. With a catamaran hire in Mallorca, you can share a unique holiday experience with family and friends, all while exploring one of the most beautiful islands on the planet. What are you waiting for? Charter a catamaran in Mallorca and get to exploring!
If you want to charter a catamaran in Mallorca you should know that the price depends on a number of factors such as the time of year, how many people are on board, and the size and length of the vessel you choose.
On average, the cost of a catamaran hire in Mallorca for 12 people is £7,920/week in high season and £4,380/week in low season.
With a subtropical climate, Mallorca often has a pleasant temperature. With 300 sunny days per year and little precipitation, Mallorca is a fantastic sailing destination. For the least amount of rainfall and highest temperatures, visit Mallorca in the summer when the temperature ranges between 24°C and 30°C.
The swell in the Balearic Islands can be particularly high due to the fact that the area is more exposed than others in the Mediterranean. Be advised that if you are sailing in Mallorca or the Balearics between March and June, there is a north wind which causes the swell to be quite steep and an old swell can occur even when there is no wind.
Mallorca is characterised by ever-changing wind conditions. Between the months of March and June, you’re likely to encounter the north wind of Tramontana or the northeast wind known as Mistral. In the summer, the winds come from the east and southeast and in autumn, the north winds regain their dominance. The only time it is relatively windless is during the winter months.
For the best wind conditions, hire a catamaran between June and September with measures between 3BFT to 6BFT, and calmer winds as the evening approaches.

At Scansail we have a variety of hire options with or without a skipper or crew however, in order to operate a catamaran in the Balearic Islands, you must have a licence. If you don’t have a licence but still want to sail, not to worry– just opt for one of our skippered vessels. Although having a skipper on board is typically more expensive, it is well worth the extra cost! Skippers handle all of the boating logistics such as docking, sailing, and anchoring the catamaran so you can just sit back, and relax. The best part about having a skipper is the fact that they are usually locals who are familiar with the Balearics and can provide valuable insight into where you should go and what you should do to make your holiday special! For the most luxurious catamaran experience, choose a vessel with a skipper on board.
If you are planning a longer-term charter and you’ve had your fill of exploring Mallorca, you can easily sail around the other islands in the archipelago. For an active nightlife full of lavish parties and great beaches, head to Ibiza. For a relaxing holiday full of sunbathing and sea breeze, sail to Menorca, and for a more secluded getaway go to Formentera. There’s so much to see in the Balearic Islands, each one offering different landscapes and atmospheres to cater to all types of tourists.
