To make your sailing holiday in Greece an eventful and enjoyable trip, there are a few important things you should bear in mind:
Tip: Make sure you have all the necessary documents before departure. At that point, nothing will stand in the way of your catamaran charter in Greece.
Greece has a predominantly Mediterranean climate. That means temperatures range between 77 and 86 degrees Farhenheit in the dry summer season between May and September. In July and August, the temperature can sometimes rise to 100°F. Precipitation is rather rare during this time.
However, there may be occasional hot-weather storms. There is more precipitation in winter, but the weather remains rather mild. That means the summer months in particular offer ideal conditions for Greece.
The Meltemi wind system predominates in the eastern Mediterranean.
In the summer the Meltemi wind causes significant weather events with wind speeds of four to six in the Cyclades, Sporades, and the Dodecanese. The wind is especially noticeable during the day and usually subsides in the evening.
On particularly stormy days, however, it can sometimes reach strengths of between six and eight Beaufort, which then also become noticeable at night. These periods of strong winds can last up to three days. The wind coming from the northwest makes it a challenging sailing area for a Catamaran rent Greece.
Particular attention should be paid to the strong down gusts on the leeward side of the islands blowing over the anchorages. You should also pay attention to the cape and jet effects on the island sides or between them.
The Ionian Sea is somewhat calmer and more consistent. The charter area here is dominated by thermals. In the morning, the wind is rather weak, however, it increases as the sun rises and only really sets in around noon. It can reach up to five Beaufort.
There is usually a lull from 7 pm to 8 pm onwards.
